Every Automobile Owner Needs to Learn about Tires

When I bought my first car, I was very intimidated by it. However, my dad loved cars, so he had all of the regular maintenance done for me. Once I moved far from home when I landed my first job, I learned just how much may dad did to maintain my car. Little did I know that my tires had gone almost completely bald. I learned my lesson one day when it was raining and I slammed on the brakes -- my car slid and almost hit the one in front of me! This motivated me to take my car in for maintenance and the staff told me my tires were likely the problem. I have since dedicated myself to learning more about cars to keep me safe on the road. I want to share what I am learning on a blog to help others out there stay safe, too!

2 Questions To Ask Before Your Rent A Car For A Long Road Trip

If you have been planning a long road trip across the country, you may have decided that you do not want to use your own car. You may be wanting something more comfortable or reliable for the drive and have decided that you want to rent a car instead.

While the process for renting a car may seem straightforward, not all companies deal with rentals in the same way. Before you sign the agreement, make sure you ask them a couple of questions to help you better plan out your trip and budget.

1. Does the Rental Come with Any Restrictions on Locations and Mileage?

The first question you should ask before renting a car has to do with the trip itself. Does the rental come with any restrictions on locations where you can drive the car? Also, is unlimited mileage included in the service fee or will the service charge if you go over a set amount of miles?

Especially if you are traveling all over the country, you want to have a rental car that gives you free rein when driving through different states. You also want to make clear how much mileage is included per day, with unlimited being the ideal option for a long trip.

2. How Does the Service Handle Refueling the Vehicle When It Is Returned?

Another question you should ask before renting a car has to do with how the service handles the refueling of the rental. Are you expected to return to the car with a full tank or at least at the same level you left with? Or, does the rental company apply a fuel surcharge based on how many gallons are required to refuel the vehicle?

Many times, the service will give you the option of which refueling method you wish to use. Decide which one would be more convenient for you, and make sure that you put back enough money for the refueling method that you choose.

Asking the above questions before you sign the rental agreement lets you plan ahead for not only your trip but also when you need to return the vehicle. If you are going on a long trip, try to obtain a rental that comes with unlimited mileage and unrestricted travel locations. You should also know whether you need to refill the gas tank before returning the car or if they will add a fuel surcharge fee to the rental charges. If you have any further questions or need more information, speak with a representative with a car rental service in your area.
